We Could All Use A Few Extra Bucks
I rarely have met anyone who likes to talk about their income. It is one of those areas that is generally considered ‘out of bounds’. On the other hand almost everyone at any income level will say that they want to make ‘just a few extra bucks’ to cover monthly expenses. So why is it that everyone, regardless of their income level always want a little more to ‘cover expenses’? When is enough enough? The Bible is quite clear that God has no issue with people having great wealth or being rich. God rewarded many people with great riches and wealth. Abraham, Solomon, Job are a few examples. These persons were super rich billionaires on today’s standards! The biblical slant on wealth begins with a hunger to grow into the person that God has given us the capacity to become. It involves an investment in learning, in skills and the intentional discovery of abilities in the journey of life. The search reveals it all! Biblical wealth is first measured in depth of character and personal growth. The monetary wealth comes almost as a superficial bi-product. Perhaps we should stop looking for those ‘few extra bucks’ to cover the family budget and focus on becoming the person God meant us to be. Out of this hunger flows wealth and opportunity. We don’t need knowledge of God to recognize that we are ‘as good as we can get’ without investing in personal growth and development. It is obvious that a greedy poor man becomes a greedy rich man when wealth becomes part of his life. Money does not change who you are. At most it provides greater opportunity to show who you are. The hunger for knowledge and learning about ourselves, our lives and our abilities will lead to greater riches. The riches though far surpass the simple monetary change. We become greater persons. Abraham, Solomon and Job testify to it. Wealth begins with knowledge about our Creator God and who we can become. It is all downhill from there. See you Sunday as we focus on wealth and riches.
